Described as “Ireland’s Alternative moral compass” by the New York Times this week, the tributes have poured in for the ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer who never shied away from confronting tough subjects, courting controversy throughout her career (she was banned from Saturday Night Live after ripping up a photo of the Pope on stage – the Catholic church was a large focus of O’Connor’s activism). A huge number of musicians, artists and public figures have paid their condolences, from Massive Attack, her old flatmate (and LCCM guest) Nitin Sawhney, Sharon Van Etten, Russell Crowe and even Piers Morgan. Rest in Power Sinéad.
