Question 1: What is Clearing?

Clearing is a UCAS process that allows students to find available university places if they haven’t yet secured one. It’s ideal for students who:

• Didn’t receive any offers
• Didn’t meet the conditions of their offers
• Are applying after 30 June
• Have declined all their previous offers or changed their minds

Clearing gives you a second chance to find a course that’s right for you.

Question 2: Am I eligible to apply through Clearing in 2025?

You can apply through Clearing if:

• You’re applying after 30 June 2025
• You haven’t received or accepted any offers
• You didn’t meet your conditional offers and have no confirmed place
• You’re applying directly through UCAS in the summer

Question 3: How do I apply using Clearing?

Here’s how you apply through Clearing:

1. Use the UCAS search tool to find available courses.
2. Call universities directly to see if they will consider your application.
3. Once you receive a verbal offer, go to your UCAS Hub and add the Clearing choice.
4. If the university confirms, your place will be secured.

Question 4: When does UCAS Clearing 2025 open and close?

Clearing for 2025 opens on Saturday, 5 July and runs until mid-October. However, most course spaces are filled much earlier, so it’s best to act quickly once you receive your exam results.

Question 5: Where can I find Clearing phone numbers for universities?

Most universities list their Clearing hotlines and available courses on their websites. Visit the pages of your preferred universities in advance to prepare.

Question 6: What should I have ready before calling a university?

Before you call, make sure you have:

• Your UCAS Clearing number and application ID
• A copy of your exam results
• Your personal statement (optional but useful)
• A list of questions you’d like to ask

Be prepared to talk about why you’re interested in the course and what makes you a good fit.

Question 7: Where can I find my Clearing number?

Log into your UCAS Hub account. Your Clearing number will appear on your homepage under Application Status, if you’re eligible.

Question 8: How do I add a Clearing choice on UCAS?

You can only add a Clearing choice after receiving a verbal or provisional offer from a university. In your UCAS Hub:

1. Click ‘Add Clearing choice’
2. Enter the course details and institution code
3. Wait for the university to confirm your place

Only one Clearing choice can be added at a time.

Question 9: How many universities can I apply to through Clearing?

You can only hold one Clearing offer at a time, but you’re free to call and receive offers from multiple universities. You choose which offer to accept by adding it as your Clearing choice in UCAS Hub.

Question 10: How long does it take to hear back after applying through Clearing?

If a university makes a verbal offer, confirmation typically follows within 24–72 hours after you’ve added your Clearing choice. At LCCM, we often confirm places the same day.
