The BA (Hons) Commercial Music Technology focuses on the creation, development and delivery of commercial audio. As audio creators we are reliant on technologies which afford us many creative careers. The course encourages you to research and explore these technologies and their contextual practice, understanding their history and relevance to future associated industries. Areas of study include advanced recording in both analogue and digital landscapes, mixing, mastering techniques and spatial audio experiences for emerging technologies. Modules are designed to integrate skills, knowledge and understanding of commercial music industries and their future development.

 

   

   

What will you learn?

You will gain an in depth understanding of music and audio creation as well as its consumption by society. From audio conception, creation, capture, its manipulation and final delivery to the consumer, you’ll learn and explore audio synthesis, digital and analogue recording practices, advanced microphone and mixing techniques, audio mastering and composition for media platforms. Students will gain valuable insight from industry professionals on how to thrive in today’s industry landscapes. The course encourages collaboration and cross pollination with other pathways giving each student the opportunity to work alongside peers from other specialist areas of study.

This course is aimed at aspiring music producers and audio engineers looking to develop industry skills and in-depth research in contemporary practices within the music and audio industry.

Extra-curricular activities

The LCCM student body is a highly creative community and we encourage students to network internally, creating events and activities themselves. The student committee organise student social and open events in our venue and performance rooms. We have many enhancement activities that occur throughout the year, including industry guest masterclasses for the whole college and weekly open workshops to improve your music skills and knowledge in a relaxed and informal setting. We encourage students to attend industry networking events and conferences, especially those that happen in London. We have offered students free or heavily discounted tickets to some of the biggest industry gatherings like BBC Introducing Live.

  • 104 UCAS points are relevant experience

English language requirements:

  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in Maths and English or a Level 2 equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills).

 Or relevant experience in Music.

Your ability to communicate effectively is important, so the quality of your writing is a factor in how we make our decision. In particular, we will be looking for you to demonstrate one or more of the following:
